the guy at the LFS that told you that needs to go back to school
for 2 reasons....
1- Bleach will gas itself off in a matter of time anyway.. so if your storing these items dry.. that bleach is already gone within a day or so
2- even in liquid form.. bleach is made of chlorine.. which can be completely removed with prime (or any other dechlorinator)
I use bleach all the time.. I have even used it on sand and the sand is now in my mbuna tank and I havent lost a single fish
