I started dosing my 128 gal tank with Excel over a month ago to get rid of the black hair algae that was taking over everything. For the initial dose, I followed the directions on the label. Within 24 hours the one shrimp that had been thriving in the tank was dead. I inquired at the local aquarium shop and they said the chemical in Excel that acts as an algacide will kill inverts. I repeated the initial doseage several times and now dose at the lower rate recommended on the label for use after the intial dose. The hair algae is now completely gone and the snails seem to be doing fine, so I guess they're tough enough to handle the Excel. I'm wondering myself if the shrimp would tolerate the lower, normal doseage of Excel.
