I'm glad Dredgesclone posted, because it caused me to re-read this thread again. Several fish species have been tossed about, and I'm not sure what is or isn't under consideration. But I completely agree on the BH; six is going to fill your 36g (I assume a 3-foot tank?) and I believe there are also five danio of some sort? That is it for upper fish. A group of 5-6 corys could be added. But nothing more in my view.

I agree Byron, in fact I have a tank like this, my 40 breeder.
If I was the op I would stop with the corries OR personally I would trade in the BH tetras for some odessa and cherry barbs or something like that.
I had kept BH before and they hid all the time and wern't as interesting as barbs imho
