Will I be overstocked?

what are the dimensions of the tank? what filtration do you have? what is your water change schedule? all these are very important when determining stocking limits. you dont really need to add any fish, at least not platies, the platies in there will do that for you. more cories would be fine, and if needed algae eating plecos would be fine (as in not common pleco, but bristlenose or something like that).

My tank is a 70g flat back hex shape. I have a sump box for my filtration. I change roughly 30% of my water once a week and I test my water about twice a week. I'm not really interested in any Plecos, mostly want to have quite a few Gouramis in there, and if I was able to add some more fish after them, then great, if not, I'm ok with that too.

Ya I think some panda's would be great in there. It says you have them in your sig is that a diffrent tank?

I have 10, but they're all Sterbas.

i would stick with the same type of cory unless you really like somethign else. what are the dimensions? (LxWxH) you may end up needing plecos for maintenance, not just for you.

Panda cories stay small and I think you could add maybe three of them. You may also need a pleco for algae control in which case I would recommend a bristlenose pleco. They max out at 4-5 inches and are very peaceful fish. They will not bother any of the other fish and they are real workhorses when it comes to the algae in the tank.

I don't mind sticking with just the Sterba, they've got that Cheetah type marking which I think is cool, but it would be nice to have a few Pandas too, but we'll see down the road.

My dimensions of the tank, and btw the way, I say 70g tall because that is what the previous owner told me it was and I don't know how to measure gallons with dimensions, so let me know if it something different.......20"tall x 48" wide x 16" deep.

How long does a tank need to be set up before you start seeing algae appear? Or does it not even work that way?

Thanks for all your guys input...it's much appreciated!

Algae can appear in as little as 4 weeks but most of the time it takes 6-8 weeks before you will see it.

Thank you MM. My tank has been up about 2 months now and I have yet to see any algae. Is a Pleco an important part of my algae control? I do weekly cleanings and water changes. I don't mind getting some sort of a Pleco if it something I'm going to need down the road but I was under the assumption if I did weekly cleanings there was no need for a clean up crew??

BTW, I did some research on Plecos and came across a Zebra that a website was selling for $249.00. Anyone know much about them? I think once my tank has been established for awhile I might be interested in one.....talk about an original species in your tank.

the zebra plecos arent for algae control. algae grows as soon as its needs are met. which effectively means light, water, and nutrients (mainly phosphates and nitrates). usually this can be before fish are even in the tank. pandas as with all the cories are schooling and that means 6 minimum, not just three. those dimensions add up to 66 gallons. cleanup crews are important. very few tanks need no cleanup crew. if you get algae, look into somethign liek a bristlenose pleco. but if you arent getting any algae, no need to worry about it if you dont even want one.

I have four pandas in my discus tank. I had six but for whatever reason now there are four. They are fine. Ideally there should be six but from what I can see the four of them hang out togather and for all sensical purposes, they are fine in fact they are thriving. Sometimes if conditions are the way they are, having a minimum of six is not possible.
