I know plants like cooler temps and the highest temp recommended for java fern is 82 but realistically do you think java fern will grow in 86 degree water? I really want to have a planted discus tank and the high temps seem to kill off all the other plants I've tried so I'm hoping I can get a heartier plant that will make it, what do you think?

note: lighting is sufficient and not the reason the other plants died off.

My planted tanks often reached into the 30'sC (high 80's) in summer.

Try it and see

think the discus would be ok in 82 or 84 degree water? The water quality is pristine.
