Will Live Rock Keep?

I fortunate enough to be taking a 75 gallon saltwater out of the hands of someone who gave up on it. I'm familiar with aquariums but I haven't ever set up a saltwater before. But I have read up a ton on them. This aquarium has all the live rock needed and its all cured but when I move it to my house I want to be able to take sometime to really clean and scrap the aquarium and refinish the stand. If I were to take the live rock and put it in a large bucket or plastic bin with the aquarium water and a small pump for circulation, would it last a couple weeks? I plan on keeping it indoors and if I have to I'll put a heater on it. I also have a florestent light that I could put over it for a few hours a day too. What do you think?

That will work, but I'd plan on feeding the live rock to keep the bacteria viable. Also, if there are encrusting organisms or corals on the rock, be careful how you stack the rock so you don't a) crush them or b) bury a photosynthetic animal in the dark, where it will die. I'd plan on having some lighting on the tub as well, just for item b).

And dont overlook the obvious-you need to have it in saltwater with the proper salinity

I unpacked my first live rock and rinsed off the gunk-with water out of the faucet. Two chunks before I went-DUH!!!!!

I would put in a heater and a powerhead. I wouldn't put any food in - there will inevitably be some really tiny amount of dieoff anyway, and most inverts can hack a couple of weeks of minimal maintenance.
Adding fluorescents is up to you. They won't do ought for anything photosynthetic. Daylight is probably good enough. You sound like you're well on the right track though

Thanks for the info! I have another Question though... I guess I didn't think about this before but I just thought of it while I was reading some other posts. So if I clean the tank and fill it with the new fresh saltwater ... am i going to have to do anything else before I put the live rock back into it? (Besides the obvious like pH, alk, temp, salinity) I'm assuming I'll have to make sure all the water chemistries are good. I'm use to just worrying about fish.. This live rock stuff is a whole new world to me!
