Hi, I have a 55g with 11 various Mbuna. Two full grown fish, the rest vary between 1" and 1.5". They have all been together about 6 to 8 weeks, and so far the all seem to be getting along fairly well.

I'm looking for some algae control in the form of OTO cats and Malaysian Trumpet Snails, both of which I can steal from my planted tank.

Are Mbuna known to eat either of these?

Thanks,
Randy

I wouldnt count on the ottos lasting to long. Never had any experience with snails but i would assume that they would be ok.

i've got snails with my africans...and they are surviving much better than my cory's in there...I think i may have to remove them :(

but I would chose snails over the otos...

I'd recommend MTS for any tank. they keep the substrate stirred up for you. I've never really had to add tem though, as they have managed to find their way into my tanks on their own.

P.S. I would never keep cories in any rift lake set-up. They are generally kept in tanks with tetras, SA dwarf cichlids, and things of that ilk. I tend to keep them away from any other bottom dwelling species like rams, because the cories tend to ge on their nerves, and are typically too stupid to stay away from them.

story time..

in my bros tank, he has 4 cories and they always hang around the jd, even though the jd chases them off over and over. sooner or later, a stupid cory will be killed...
