will mosses other than Java Moss work in the brackish tank?

Java fern is interesting--so is the moss ball.

yeah, the moss ball........

I have loved these little balls since I first saw them, but haven't gotten any due to their high price, and not fully understanding them. they are actually algae... and I wonder if that algae spreads throughout the tank or stays confined to the ball, or if I can use it to seed that sort of algae/moss on other decorations...

I believe it stays in the ball. Supposed to be a great nitrate remover. Dunno why they're so darn expensive. Maybe I can get my wholesale friend to price a couple for me.

It is a form of algae, but it'll stay confined to itself. Doesn't really "seed", but it propagates via division.

They are expensive sometimes. I did pick up a 5" ball for just $8 last year, but that's probably out of the ordinary.

Great price! When it splits you can send me one!

I broke it apart months ago to use it as a carpet. A giant ball isn't easy to aquascape with.

It's fine and dandy, but a PITA to clean. Marimo balls are magnets for debris and poop. I'm likely going to replace it and use it to decorate rocks or driftwood.

You're probably better off buying one rather than getting a "pinch" of it. It's an incredibly slow grower.
