Helo,
I am new to this so help me out. I just started a 5 gallon aquarium about 2 weeks ago. I made the mistake of putting a betta in with some tatra's and he chased them all of the time. So i moved him and wne tback to the store and got a gourami that also started to chase the tetra's. So he is going back today too. My question is only one of my tetra;s is left and she is healthy. Can she survive in the tank with some guppies or do i need to ge ther some friends also. I live in a dorm room so space is limited. I would like a little of both but i can keep buying fish that dons last. I like the fancy guppies but i am concerned about the two fighting. What do you suggest. Thankyou.

Tetras are schoolers and need other fish of the same species to feel safe and calm. Guppies should go fine with the tetras as long as they are close in size. I had a recent problem with guppies being terrorized by older/large tetras.

5 gallons is really too small for a school of tetras. They need more swimming room than that. Don't believe aquarium boxes- when I bought my 5 gallon hex for growing plants, the pictures on the box had 5 or 6 blue gouramis, some rosy barbs, and other stuff... That doesn't happen in real life.

If you want things that are suitable for a 5g, Try the dwarf gourami, paradise fish, or betta solo in the 5, perhaps with an otocinclus catfish, shrimp or snails. Or Maybe an African Dwarf Frog tank?
