Will My turtle Run away?

Am I the only one who finds this flippant attitude regarding the disappearance and, most likely, the DEATH of his turtles disturbing?

Up until this thread, I'd been impressed by the level of knowledge and compassion displayed on the forum- it seems as though people took the time to become knowledgeable about the species they maintained.

If you intend to keep the turtle, then yes. You need a fence. At this rate, however, I'm voting that you rehome the turtle and remain chelonian-free.

well what i ended up doing was creating a small little penned up area and a ramp for him to get out of the pond into the pen in the corner. Theoretically he could still "run away" if he really wanted to, but he has been in my pond for 3 weeks now, and i dont think he is going anywhere. He even lets me take him out of the pond once in a while to feed him and let him run around the house.

If it can get out of the pond, chances are it will, and then it will be gone.

Well i didn't build a fence, but i made it much more difficult for him to get out using rock placements, and so far he hasn't left the pond. I even took him out a few times and put him in the garden to see where he would go, and it turns out he just climbed right back into the pond :] he must like it! He doesn't even dive down and hide in his cave when i walk by any more.

Uhm... Well good news and bad news... Bad news, my lilies and Lotus have been almost completely destroyed/ eaten. Good news.... I have 2 turtles instead of just 1. I went out to my pond this morning expecting to see my nice little turtle basking on his rock, but instead of seeing a turtle basking on a rock, i saw 2 turtles basking on the rock... It looks like one of my escapees has returned
