Hey, Jpappy, that's encouraging. I'd love to hear more about your success in keeping these guys in hard water and high ph. What exactly are your parameters? Where did you get yours? How long have you had them?
I've learned that very hard water is the norm here in Michigan. We're are a glacial dumping ground. I don't have a test kit for Kh/Gh. Well I do have some dip strips that I bought before I knew better. According to those, my Gh reads somewhere around 150-300ppm and KH reads around 300ppm. My LFS does not carry a test for this. So that's all I have to go on.
I've been putting posts out there to try to find a breeder or at least some gbr keepers locally but haven't had any luck yet. There is one LFS about an hour away but they keep theirs with a RO system. I'd really rather not get into RO.
