I want to add more red phantom tetras to my planted tank, but I don't remember if the original group I bought quite awhile ago was so pale as they are at the LFS.

Will they color up once they settle down in a new home?

They have some nicely colored ones in their show tank, but the for-sale tank is rather dule.

Thanks!

I believe they will. Most fish do unless of very poor stock quality.

They should.

The rummies i bought werent very colorful at all, barely red noses. But they were $.99 at the LFS so i had to get them and i bought 10. Brought them home and they colored up in about 2 days and are beautiful.

Good luck!

Send us pics!

If they hardly ever get them and you really want them and have the room for them then go for it. Most of the fish at the LFS do not really show their true colors because of stress brought on by recent shipping, overcrowding, and poor water quality.Once they get in a new home where they can settle in and relax, they should color up just fine and be beautiful.

Ours did, actually quite a bit .......:)

grrrrrrrrrrr, I waited too long, and they only had 7 left. I was planning on getting TWENTY! So I got them all and 10 cardinals and some ottos. That'll put me @ 12 red phantoms and 20 cardinals once they come out of QT.

LFS said the red phantoms are wild caught (naughty me, I know), and are in season so I'll just need to keep an eye out.

Thanks for the encouragement, as I really just want to boost my existing stock and not introduce a different schooling fish.

All but 1 made it through quarantine and moved over into the high-rent district (planted 135) tonight. Though I still have zero vacancies, as 1 of my cichlids that was holding moved into the Q tank in the hopes of some fry going back with her into the 29.

Pictures of the 135 will come after they settle in and color up some...and I scrub some algae off the glass as its not very photogenic right now. :)

But I haven't seen any more red phantom's at my LFS. :(
