Hello,

This is a continuation of "Hammer1126's" thread.

I am about 16 days into the cycle of my 55 gal tank and I am beginning to make a list of the types of fish I would like to keep. I like the setup that was suggested. Would inverts be able to live in the tank as well, or, would they become food for the others? Also, since my girlfriend and I are maintaining the tank together she has suggested a dwarf lionfish. Any opinions about putting him into the mix? Will the tank sustain such a load? Thank-you.

Projected Stock:

Puffer (dwarf or dog-faced)
Tang (a smaller species)
Snowflake eel
Dwarf lionfish

A dwarf lion should be fine but a couple of the others will cause some problems. Get a Dwarf Puffer (Canthigaster sp.) rather than an Arthron. Arthrons get far too big and need at least a 125g when adult. I would also skip on the tank since even the smallest of the tangs will feed crammed in a 55. They need at least a 75 but much more preferably at least a 6ft tank. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!

What about inverts? I'd like to keep some sort of cleaning crew in my tank. I just don't want to keep adding them if they are going to become a constant source of food. Would a larger sponge crab, arrow crab, and an assortment of shrimp be alright in the tank? I've read that the fish won't eat it unless it can fit it into it's mouth. Sorry for such basic questions, but I am new to the hobby and just want to set up a balanced environment. I would like to upgrade to a 125 g within a year. Thanks!
