Windows 7

I have been running windows 7 for 6 months.. it is amazing

I even put it on my mother in law's computer and she is computer illiterate for the most part.

DEFINATELY worth the switch.. and if you get the upgrade version for your OS its as easy as putting in the DVD, waiting 30 min and using it.. no backup needed if you use the correct upgrade path from vista

even the fresh install is easy

Well Petluvr did you finsh the install? How do you like it? From all the negative stuff I hear about microsoft through 98-vista I do not know where I would be without there great program, outlook, word, excel, publisher, power point, one note. The time windows has saved me over the years and the the easy useable programs I'm forever grateful! They were the there from the start and can not image life being the same without them!

I installed it on a 6 year old computer ( amd semperon 1.8ghz )...i did not have to download a single driver....

Ha try p3 993mhz (it is oc'ed to 1.2ghz, but nothing mind blowing), basically everything on that pc is well below the suggested min (512 ram, etc..), besides an ok 128 meg vid card and everything still runs ok even with the 3d effects, forget running vista on it.

I keep hearing good things about Windows 7. I never had Vista, I haven't been able to give up my reliable XP :)

Surprisingly win7 is alot more stable than xp (been running since the first beta back in january, had a few bsods on different xp machines, nothing on win7), they've also included a bunch of gui based point and click (looks completely idiot proof) system recovery tools, it does look like vista style windows for dummies edition (everything just HAS to go with a colorful icon that brings up 10 other menus), but it works on par with xp.

You can dual boot win 7 on your xp box just to try it out.

Sounds great! I will be glad not to hunt down drivers. I've heard the same thing from some other folks, so I think I'm sold.:nilly:

Nope never installed just too nervous about losing some of my stuff, even with the backups :)

Did you make a full drive image? I have backups of all my drive images for emergencies and I make new backups every time I change anything. It just saves time and nerves.

Vista is actually a good OS... at least it is now. A bit late, unfortunately.

I know it will work fine on my pc, but do you think it would do okay on a 2.8 GHz P4/512 mb RAM desktop in addition to a 1.6 GHz celeron/2 GB RAM laptop? I can always cut the effects down if I have to.
