Went to buy the new Windows 7 tonight but it says on the box that if you are running Vista (which I am) you must back up all files before installing then reinstall all your files. What a PITA, I put it back on the shelf. Does this mean that the thousands of pics, and years worth of college papers I have on my laptop has to be backed up to disk or flashdrive or I will lose them if I install Windows 7?

I'm concerned about that as well. Not to mention I just did a bunch of file transferring already when I bought my laptop.

I wish I had the money to buy an external hard drive.
I have one but I put nothing on it, I know kind of a waste of money but oh well. I was just amazed, it must just wipe your computer out then start fresh because the box said backup all files, then do a clean install.

Thats exactly what it does, but if you can manage backing up your data, its the worth the hassle.

Petluvr you should be backing up your data already, imagine if that laptop was stolen or destroyed.

I do back up all my data for the most part, however what I am also concerned about is programs that I no longer have the installation discs for. It just seems as though it is going to be more of a hassle than it is worth.
