I used to have it growing, now Im clean and my briggs are hungry for it. I'm now down to feeding them 2 times a day pellet and flake etc. how does one get algae to grow? I have not had algae for a long time !! I have great lighting, little over 2 watts per gallon .planted tank.

Let it get some natural light. That will give you algea. I've heard some people say to put some rocks and aquarium water in tupperware with an airstone on the windowsill in the sun.

When I was raising lots of tadpoles I set up an 'algae farm'. I filled a clear tupperware container with old tank water and covered the bottom with medium-sized rocks (about the size of the palm of my hand), added some algae-grown leaves from a pond, and set the container on a sunny windowsill. I periodically added a bit of fish food or a sprinkling of garden fertilizer for nutrients.

This way you can put a nice green rock in your tank, let the snails clean it, then go back to the algae farm and exchange it for another nice green rock.

id be glad to send ya some of mine but its mostly bba
