After trimming and replanting 10" tips, both plants grow about 3/4" to 1" daily. Later on, when they are about 18" tall, growth is closer to 2" daily. Now that things are sorted out I've returned to my usual dosing routine, which I think is on the high side:
N - 1/4 tsp
P - 1/32 tsp (smidgen)
CSM+B - 6ml of 1/8 mixture
K - small amount
Excel Carbon - 1 capful
These are added 3x week, When the tank is heavily overgrown (jungle phase), i will slightly increase N. Began using the Excel to restore tank after BBA problem, and still using it in addition to pressurized co2. Hope this helps.

No wonder your plants look better. I've never been good "dialing in" ferts...or ferts at all :(. Maybe you need a bigger trim than leaving 10" pieces next time? Just a thought...

Not so sure if I'm very good at it either, as my numbers are much higher than recommended:
N = 50
P = 5
Fe = 0.5 or more
This simply seems to be what works best for my plants and my tank. As for trimming everything down to even less than 10", my concern is that such a sudden reduction in biomass of more than 50% might be too disruptive, although not sure. Someone more experienced might know.

Well, you could leave the trimmings floating until the other parts catch up. Then remove them...I'm absolutely not the 1 to take advice for ferts from...dialing in or just dosing, I'm lame oops
