Two weeks ago, I was ecstatic because I was finally getting a Nitrite reading. Now, I finally have a Nitrate reading! :D

My params are:

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0.5ppm
Nitrate: 5.0ppm

I did a water change to decrease the Nitrite a little so my little Gourami is happy. :) I'm so excited to have a cycled tank in a week or two!! WOO HOO!!!!

My understanding is you don't have a cycled tank as long as nitrite still exists.

What size is your tank ?

I said "in a week or two", meaning, I'll have a cycled tank in a week or two. It's a 10 gallon tank.

I was thinking of adding one, maybe a pair of Blue Rams.

Oops,I misunderstood. Yea your tank most like;y should cycle by then.
How long has it been running? I have a 55 gallon that just finished cycling on Monday. It took almost 2 months...
So I wnet out and bought me some fishies today

how can you tell when a tank is officially cycled? Does that mean there is a nitrate reading and then there is a zero reading? All my tanks still have a small nitrate reading. Does that mean they haven't cycled?

no, your tank is cycled if you get a nitrate reading. it is just what is left over after the ammonia conversion process. you just remove it by doing your weekly water changes. and rsaz.... I don't think you could put a pair of rams in a 10g, but you could put a single one.
