Woot New 40s!

Just picked up two 40breeders from petco's sale. Got my first pic out of the lot so I got to be picky on which tank I thought had the cleanest seals.

Been hard at work since then, cut my grass then began my dual stand. $18.50 in 2x4's later here it is.

Btw I never put my cat in the tanks she always climbs in I think it's the smell :goldfish: or she's the inspector

That was quick! Is there a lot of variance in the tanks as far as quality? What do you check for, the seal job, flaws in the glass, etc?

congrats on the purchase, the stand looks solid also. I like my 40b's a lot, I actually just finished planting one.

some have flaws in the seal like bubbles or streaks, i'm sure they'll all hold but I'll be choosy given the oppourtunity =). Some had silocone residue on outside glass or inside, easy to remove but again y pick that one and have to put work into it. And of course the scratches and chips but thats a given.

yea my whole goal for the day was to buy these tanks at 10am during opening and set them up. I posted my 75 on craigslist and someone wants the buy it tonight already so I am in busy mode setting things up. The bottom one will be krib/cory grow out tank with minimal plants.

Top will be my planted, with mH pendant I've been dying to try. With harliquin rasporas, neons, and cory metae and cory false julies. Probably add a large school of pygmy cories If i can get my hands on them.

Let me join the club ! I, too, upgraded to a 40B (my 2nd) from a 20L today. I have 9 L400 plecos, from 2 to 3" each, and they needed more room than the 20L. Thank you petco for the $1 per gallon sale. The all glass versa top cost almost as much as the tank did (37.99) ! I have a metal double 40B rack, but I hate dealing with the tank underneath (too low), so I put the new 40B on the same wooden rack that the 20L was on (it was made for a 29). And yes, I also bought some 2 x 4s and reinforced the stand. Here's the outcome. And sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your

I originally built a stand with my dad for 2 of my 40s and then I got lazy and bought a metal stand for the other 6.
