I think you have other freshwater tanks? I would suggest moving the betta to a temporary tank (jar, tub) & starting with new filter media from a healthy tank or 2. 1 betta doesn't have a big bioload but a constant battle against of recurring parasite infection will be hard to control.

To me hydra look like your pest in a way...but have long tentacle arms too. They often use those to attach the glass, more rarely the fish...

How are you "sanitizing" the tank? Did you say?

The betta can’t go in my other tanks, but I’m pretty sure they’re not parasitic. Nothing was on the betta at all and he’s been fine. I’ve been watching all day and still nothing of concern with him. But I sanitized by boiling everything but the one bag of media and then used boiling water to wipe down the tank ( ouch). I tossed the plants in the trash and pulled a few from my tang setup.
We’ll see, but I haven’t seen a hint of those guys so far today

Oh, in your first post you said your betta was "covered in them". I was basing my ideas on that.

Really, they don't look like hydra to me. They usually have long thin tentacles & IME mostly attach to tank glass but can attack small fry.

I hope what you've done will fix the problem.

My bad, must’ve been a typo. If they were all over him I would have sanitized everything immediately and probably did a SW dip lol. I’m thinking they were probably planaria. You’re right, they’re missing the tentacles that hydra have. Either way, thanks for all the help!
