whne i stir up my gravel i see free floating thin white worms about half an inch in length, what are these and how can i get rid of them?

Most likely Planaria. You can get rid of them by being careful not to overfeed and keeping the gravel clean.

Do the worms live in the substrate minly, only getting stirred up as you say, or do you see them in the water free swimming and or on the glass? If not planaria, they could be nematodes.

Sounds like Planaria. They are harmless to fish and some fish enjoy eating them. Most commons causes are overfeeding and water quality issues. Just monitor what you feed and slow it down a bit, then do a large volume water change or two and it should clear it up in no time.

free food for the fish? why not just make sure all stats are good and just keep everything else the same. cept for feeding less so theres less extra food in the tank. only my crazy idea tho.
