would a 1g milk jug work for co2?

i don't think it can take the presser(sp?) but i've never done it so......
 
No problem. Make sure that you get a good seal on the lid. I would also add less yeast unless you need a lot of CO2. Are you looking for greater quantities of CO2 or a longer fermentation period?
 
They have a wider cap, an so would be more prone to leakage, but I think the bottle would take the pressure. You have to remember that 2-liter bottles were made to be put under pressure. The gallon jugs weren't.

Pressure's not really that much of an issue - the pressure generated will only be that required to push out the CO2, which is minimal at a depth of 12"-15"
 
You are most likely losing CO2 through the unsealed cap. To test it, either brush on or spray on some soapy water on all your seals and joints. If you see bubbles, then there is a leak.

Those jugs also use a different plastic. It is softer and I wonder if it may breakdown once your acidity starts to climb. Similar to the reaction you get with vinyl tubing and CO2.

Just something to watch for. . .
