Would a 24" light look okay on a 36" tank?

I have a 20g High Tank atm with the 2 fish in my sig.
If I took my current 24" CFL (65w) and put it on a 38g (36") tank how would it look?

Also, would a Eheim 2213 be enough filtration for a 38g tank w/ 2 fish in sig and maybe 1 more fish?

I'm thinking my 2 fish would be happier in a 38 vs their current 20g

my old 38 gallon hood , i bought used, had a 30" light on it.

it was fine for the middle of the tank, but really left the ends a little shaded, and i assume it'd be worse since your is 24"

It didnt take me long to jsut buy a new 36" light.

it could work..especially if you hung it from the ceiling. youd have to come up with a way to safely rest it on the aquarium if you arent going to hang it, though, and that could be a problem since itll be too short and too thin to rest on the outer rim.

I'd use a Glass Canopy by AllGlass. The kind with a glass door, glass middle and a plastic part on the back that is cutable.

a guess thats a look some people could go for. ive heard of people using a spotlight type effect for their tanks.

i dont know if youd want to rest the enclosure box on the glass..but if its really light plastic, it might work

I have seen a few 30 gallon tank set-ups with a lot of unlit space on top and they looked fine.

I would try it and if there is too much shaded area, get another light. I think you could set up your decor that the less lit area would look good.

I have a 36 inch on my 48 inch tank. 96 watts over 55 gallons.

Just make sure whatever plants you put on the sides are low light and you'll be fine. If anything it causes them to reach towards the light so they don't smoosh up against the tank sides when growing.

As long as lighting for plants isn't an issue, I would do it. I would consider using a short light more of mood lighting than plant lighting, so if it's a look you like go for it. I plan on doing this on one of my tanks (currently without light altogether).

so you have an 8" fish and a 6" fish in a tank that is 16-20" long 20gal high or is it a 20gal long 24" which would explain the 24" light
i think you need a bigger tank first
