Would Like To Breed A Fish?, for a 2.5 gallon tank, could be getting a 10 g

Just going out on a limb, but I would think the reason you find them a lot is that killifish aren't going to strike the general aquarist as something they want to keep. That being said, you can find them where I am at at several LFS including Petsmart and Petco from time to time, and I think I have even seen some at Wal-Mart on occassion.

Trust me, every store selling fish that I go into, I look for them. After four years of looking, I've found nothing.

Then perhaps, Rowangel, you could explain to me why Nolan's- which is the largest single aquarium and fish store in all of central Florida, carrying hundreds of species of freshwater fish does not and has never even carried them, if indeed they are so abundant within the hobby?Or why the most recent revision of Axelrod's Freshwater Aquarium Atlas, a very reliable reference book, mentions that require primrily live food? I don't mind being wrong occasionally, just not when I have the proof to back it up.
Just because one store, regardless of its grandeur, does not carry these fish by no means that this fish is expensive or hard to come by. Fish stores vary across countries and even within States. Some fish are easier to come by in one location than they are in another; popularity also makes a difference in ease of accessibility. Just because you can’t find Killies in your favorite store does not mean someone else can not locate some. Furthermore, you can order Least Killies online at several reliable places, and they are not expensive or difficult fish to keep at all. They do not require live food to survive, mine are quite happy and prolific on flake and frozen and the least picky of my fish. They are super easy to breed, just like guppys, and are actually recommended as a good beginner fish by several people on this board because they are so easy and cheep to own. One source, reliable IYO, is not ‘proof’ by any means. I can throw around proof too (http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Heterandria_formosa.php), but the best info comes from those who have experience…so if you don’t want to believe me as an experienced owner, ask around, several other people here have them as well.

And I thought I knew how to silence people...wow. Thanks for the overwhelming info. Actually, killies are one of the few species that I have never even considered keeping- due of course to this obviously false info I have been believing for a few years now.

i dont know how dificult it is but in 10g you might be able to breed blue rams, which the babies would probably be more "profitable" if you are breeding to sell.

Bumblebee gobies ? Endlers livebearers ? Scarlet Badis ? and..here's a site with a few more smallish type fish that are supposed to do ok in such small tanks....probalby no more than a pair though in a 2.5.........

The problem with tanks that small is keeping the water up to temp for fish who are tropical. I've found a little heater at walmart...not the regular type jr heater that isn't regulated, but another one that is set at 78F. I have it in a 2.5 and it's working quite well in there. Keeps the temp right at 78 no prob. Also, for a filter...those RedSea nano filters work great if you can get one. Right now I have a shell full of bumblebee goby eggs in my 2.5, waiting for them to hatch.

Some pretty cool little fish on that list here....check out the little white cloud ;)

This is one of my little 2.5s...the betta got booted so that I could put the goby eggs in there....poor fella....lol
