Would Renters Maintain a Pond ?

We are moving and I'm having doubts that renters would take the time to clean the pond filter. It needs it at least every other week. The filter is a sponge type and can be messy....

It's a small pond, and I'm leaning toward ripping it out and trashing it, and filling in the area.

I need to add there's a small leak somewhere in the plastic mould that I can't find to fix it.

Any advice and comments please...... ?

Joe, I wouldn't depend on renters for taking care of the pond. I mean, you may get someone who is really into it and all but they may lose that interest.... regardless if it's a week or a year. PLUS with that leak that you can't find, you may be bound to pay a lot more than you think with someone who thinks they know where it is, is really only troubleshooting it, costing you a heavy dollar. IMO, renters just aren't reliable enough as a whole..... individually, you may find a gem in there but realistically, I think it's a long-shot.

I would agree with Dangerdoll. I would hate to see a nice pond go but often it is enough just trying to get them to maintain the house without adding anything extra.

Some friends of mine moved into a large house that had a pond stocked with large kio. They ran the waterfall day and night, it sounded so nice.

Several months passed and one day they noticed splashing from the pond. Turns out the fish were laying on their sides in a few inches of water, the rest of the water having evaporated away in the Texas heat. I have no idea whether they knew enough to dechlorinate when refilling.

Can you fill it with soil and call it a bog? Then if you wish you can dig out to repair later on, but it is safe for kids and renters.

The pond goes -- forgot about the safety factor too..

Now... Let's see... Research, research and more for a better and bigger pond with a waterfall and an easy cleaning filter system..
