would royal gramma fit the bill?

ok so as i've got this killer clown fish in my (really my dad's) 29 gallon. she's now killed a baby clown and a pygmy angelfish. my dad would really like another fish to the tank. we've added a 6-line wrasse that is doing fine, he's so fast he just darts into the rock when the clown chases him. i don't think the tank is big enough to support an aggressive clown and a damsel tho i was wondering if a damsel is our only option. i have a royal gramma in my 37 who i love and it holds its own with my clowns. i know they also duck into the rock when threatened so i was thinking that one maybe a good option for us. what do you think? if there is any other options for us to look at too, something small, aggressive and reef safe let me know!

my best guess would be if you got a royal gramma to tack the clown out and put him in a diffrent tank so that the royal gramma can make it his home first so that the more aggressive fish wont mess with him because he was in the tank first.

i suppose i could set up a qt for the clown... i know that ppl will say to rearrange the LR in the main tank but i've tried that and it doesn't work with this clown.

I'd consider a Royal Dottyback instead. Looks similiar but it is feisty. Although now I'm seeing you have a shrimp. There could be issues there. One of those caution things.

besides a Royal gramma you could also try another type of basslet since they are reef safe and easy to take care of plus they can most def hold thier own against a clown.

what about replacing the Clown entirely? If he keeps attacking fish, he may continue. What about returning him to a store and exchanging for another less fiesty fish.

i'd actually like to return the clown. however the tank was a gift to my dad and so he has the final say (tho i care for it entirely) and he likes the clown a lot... hmmm, im really thinking about the basslet route...

I have a Pink Dottyback and it is able to hold it's own against my clown, and only runs from my lawnmower blenny. Although, my clown has never kileld anything.

I would go with grins and replace the clown. My clown gets along great with my royal gramma. Remember that clowns are damsels and can be mean, but mine (false Perc) is not.
