Would this be a good CF fixture?

I am considering upgrading the lighting on my 10g planted tank and would like to know if this is a good, reliable unit. Here's the link,

The main reason I am upgrading is the current lighting has a dim spot in the middle of the tank. It's the original incadescent hood but using screw in fluorescents. If I bought this light or one like it, would it be safe to set it directly on a glass lid or would I need support legs to hold it above the lid? Also, if I got this, I would of course change the bulb out to a daylight bulb.

Should I get the support legs for this light, or will it be ok to set it directly on the glass top?

I have that very light (though it cost a lot more from the local pet store; shipping may make your price go up), and I bought legs for it, too. The fixture is over my planted 10G. I've had it since September 2006. I recently bought some replacement full-spectrum 10,000K bulbs to have just in case, from Seacorals.com, and they arrived last week in good shape (though the packaging could have been stronger).

That's what I have at the moment, but the reason I am changing it is that I have noticed a "dim" spot in the middle of the tank. I wanted to go with a tube-type fixture to try to even the light out a bit. I had to go with the CF fixture because a single tube would not have enough light (1.5 WPG) and I could not find any double tube fixtures to fit a 10g tank. Plus the CF and the glass cover will give it a cleaner, more refined look IMO.
