incandescent hood. just like the reg ones for tanks. save your self the money and if you want to go this way run over to walmart and pick up some day light power compact bulbs.
That's what I was asking, if I used those daylight spiral looking bulbs wouldn't this hood work just as well as one of those expensive aquarium hoods w/ grow lights?
Well this hood was only $30. I'm trying to find an inexpensive alternative to buying lighting for my plants, but something that looks ok.

That hood certainly could work. I suppose the size of the tank will come into play at some point as it looks like the largest variant is just about 24 inches wide. With that hood you can potentially put a mixture of bulbs with different spectrums if you wanted.
yay! I have a 12 gal with various aparatus strung all over the place above it, it looks horrible. I saw this and thought "hey! this might work!".
