hello,

I have an old filter very similar to the one pictured below and was wondering if I could use it for my fish tank.

I think it would work but the biggest concern would be the water output and that it would cause too much of a current.
how would I reduce that to make it work?

have any of you tried this?

Please let me know what you think.

Is it made for a pool? Aren't those usually fluidized bed filters? See if you can find a flow rating on it, or a pump hp rating. It could probably be used but on a very large tank or pond.

Yes, it is meant for small pools. smallest I found was rated at 530gph.
It uses this for media:

which is similar to what some canisters use anyway, right?

but you are correct, you wouldn't be able to add any trays in it.

has it been used in a pool, because if it has than i would be worried about chlorine

wouldnt the bacteria settle on the white filter cartridge just like it does on the biowheel?

it has been used in a pool in the past but I would definitely make sure that it is all cleaned up (dechlorinator) before running it.
