WOW! $$

When I had my shop in the mid 90's,we used to get blue eyes fairly regularly and sold them for the rather large sum of around $45. We also sold zebra plecos for $25. Compared to other freshwater fish these were considered extremely expensive. If I had only started breeding them at the time, wow! You often hear about the aquarium trade and hobbyists supposed disregard for native populations of fishes, how we remove them from their habitats for our own pleasure. Here are 2 examples of fishes that would be all but extinct if not for hobbyists breeding programs.

I don't think I would ever buy a $15,000 fish in my life, unless if I win the lottery. Sure is beautiful though.

Yeah i mean its pretty and all, i just couldn't imagine dropping that much on a fish lol

My understanding is the reason the price for the blue eye rose so high because it was almost impossible to get. The reason for this was their habitat was in the middle of rebel controlled territory and collecting them was virtually impossible.

With the recent gains made by the Colombian government vs the rebels it has once again become possible to collect this fish without being shot.

I have had several importers offer me these fish in recent months. Unfortunately I do not have adequate tank space to house them as they grow to one foot.
