okay, when I first started my 20 gallon, i stocked it with 10 neon tetras.... after about a week, they basically started to chase each other, and ended up with nipped fins. they all died except for on, and it has been living in my tank for two years now... I added some harlequinn rasoras, and at least one of them looses coloration and dies. what is going on here? is the same thiing happeneing over again like with the neons? or is it something different?

Did you test your water parameters? What about your store? Please tell us your water parameters. How did you also acclimate the fish?

my water parameters are fine. the nitrates are at 5 ppm. but thats abt it. also i have had these harlequinns for about three months now so I dont think that the acclimation process really matters now.

But Mg, he started neons a year back. His problem is now the harlequin rasboras. Fish guru, I will ask what do you feed your fish? Did you add anything else to the tank?

My first question has to be what is in the tank for decorations and how much is there? For neons to be chasing each other and nipping fins like that, the first thing I think of is how much territory is in the tank? Neons are typically peaceful with their own kind, unless their group is too few or the tank is too sparsely decorated. The stress from lack of territory will cause illness. The harlequins almost sounds like the same thing. Can you post a picture of your tank? It would help a lot if we could see what is going on in there. Also, a photo of any fish that looks sick or seems to be having problems would help a lot too. There are a few illnesses that I can think of, but your symptoms don't really match up enough with any of them at this point.

How high is the ph of the water. I know that neons like more acidic ph. Can you post pics of your tank?
