ok i haven't been using it for about a month...

today i cleaned it and turned it on

the motor was running but wasn't pumping any water....
what the hell should i try doing?

Well, you might want to prime it by loading the filter with water before turning it on. That seems to work well for my filters.

Also, you might want to try being a little more polite when you post a request. That seems to work well for getting replies.

i would do prety much what childawg said, take a cup, fill it with water, and then it will get sorta loud until the water begins getting pumped then it will get real quiet and start pumping water.

yes, on Emporors you have to fill up them up all the way with water and then wait a while while they make all kind of strange noises until they start pumping water. Good filter otherwise

AC HOB's

Same thing with AquaClear Hang-On-Back filters.... :)

i have already tried that with two buckets of water, the excess water drains out and the filter starts making noises again instead of pumping water

Any HOB filter does that. Another thing is make sure the flow adjuster is in the "high flow" position (fully up). This will allow maximum water flow. I noticed my EMP won't run with the flow control completely closed (directions say it's supposed to be able to run with only flow going to the spraybars for bio-wheels, but it dosn't......it loses syphon). Anyone else have this problem or do your Emp's run in the "closed" position?

i would check the impeller. they have that thing thats lets the blades rotate slightly around the inner shaft with the magnet
before they rotate together. i have seen this snap unexpectedly on several emps and magnums. when this happens the impeller rotates but no water is pumps.

my emp won't run with the flow control at min either.

I have to pour water in it very slowly, keeping the box of the filter full and flowing for about 15 seconds or so, or else it just sits and makes noises like yours. Also like other people have experienced, mine will only work on full flow as well. These filters are definitely not what I expected, I had always heard such good things about them. I thought mine was defective but it seems other people have the same problems.

So true!!!! Though I wish they would say this in the instructions, where as they say "Fill half way with water" It took me like an hour of hearing a buzzing filter and freaking out thinking it was broken to figure that out!
