wuld a spiny ell eat my kuhli loaches

ime probably going to move my kuhlis to another tank and get a spiny eel

ime thinking of setting up a 10 gallon oddball tank with some hatchetfish
& glass fish.
wuld my kuhlis do allright in that setup?
or wuld they need a bigger tank ?
i allready have the 10 gallon with a cycled filter.
but i saw a good deal for a 20 gallon for 20$

I wouldn't put kuhlis in anything less than a 20. Go for a 20 long if you can.

Also, thank you for taking our advice! So often, new members don;t want to hear what we have to say, and do what they want to anyway, leading to tragedy. It's always nice to see people who are responsible, and care about the welfare of their pets. :)

whoever told you that zigzags only get 6 inches is direly misinformed

I have personally seen one over a foot long.. that goes for any member of the spiny eel family

a 46g would probably be ok.. but prepare to upgrade if you get a larger speciment.. also they are horrible escape artists.. I had one that insisted in sleeping in my HoB filter everynight.. and sometimes I would even find him on the floor

and yes.. the kuhlis will be lunch in no time

not all M. Sp grows to same length. spiney eel in hobbyist's tank very rarely will grow more than 8-10" as I never had one that reached 12" even in 180 G tank..
On the other hand, fire/tire track eels are totally different stories.

As far as compatibility with kuhli loach, never kept them together thus dont know exactly what the consequences will be when kept together. However, I would expect higher chances of interactions in small tank than large tank. This, of course, does'nt means kuhli's will be eaten by Spiney as their mouth is pretty small. Depends on the sizes of both fish.

It is your call.

DO drop the water level or secure all possible openings. Finding fish in the filter is pretty common as I have seen many fish originally from fast flowing water streams tend to do so.

i have a pretty tight fit on my lid
but i was thinkng of just lining my lid with aquarium sillicone for a realy tight fit will that contain a peacock eel?

yes but I think its gonna create a lot of condensation and therefor possibly mold.. you need some air to water contact for oxygen transfer as well

its not like i have any gaps in my lid right now
and the water isnt touching the lid
i personally think the only thing i have to worry about is by some miracle one of the fish opens the glass lid that weighs more than they do.

what do you think i shuld do?
am i suposed to have a hole in the lid somewhere?
