I know we got some car audio experts here. I was hoping one of you could answer a question I have...

My Radio says "XM Ready" on the front. Does that mean the reciever itself is capable of receiving the XM signal? Or does it just mean It's capable of being connected to an XM receiver?

AFAIK
capable of being connected.

the xm receiver has an audio output, and the car receiver needs an input, thats all it means.

well you might not have to.
If your using an amp you could just get a y adapter, assuming the XM comes out in a non proprietary rca/mini type format and has a volume control.

The XM signal is digital and needs a tuner to decode it and output the audio. I love XM, but I haven't been able to convince myself yet to buy the extra hardware I'd need to get it running in my car.

Slip, your dead on...

I have found out that my receiver will control and display an XM receiver that I would hide behind the dash.

However, if I wanted to use Sirius radio I would need to install the external receiver. My rceiver has the inputs for it, but is not designed to control it.

yea, HUs can either control sirius OR XM, none that Im aware of can control both.

In any case, I strongly dislike XM, Im no fan of clear channel. Sirius for me. :dance

I'm no fan of Clear Channel either, but they own only a very small part of XM. I've got nothing against Sirius, but I'll stick with XM myself.
