I'm interested in the sponge on the filter intake...do you take it of and clean frequestly, and do you find that it stresses the filter in any way by restricting the water flow in? (I'm asking if it does..not assuming it does..)

For filter floss, you can use plain polyester fiberfill. It's cheaper.

When I clean the filter, I toss the floss and use new, and rinse out the sponges in old tank water.

Ah ha....so thats filter floss. I'll definetly have to look into that. Is this stuff good for replacing the white micro foam pad thingy that came with the Xp3?

I did not use the charcoal bag stuff that came with the filter. I am using filter floss, But I think I need to put more in to get better water polishing out of the filter

20ppm and 30ppm foam pads on the bottom - I think they all come like this brand new.
Rena ceramic rings in the middle
Rena Bio-Stars on the top with the white pad at the very top

I kinda just put them like that cause it was most convenient.
