Is the dwarf loach a snail eater ?

What is its bioload?

Does it need to be in school ?

I think my tank may be good for it iam thinking it could go with six kuhlis and a possible bn pleco.

filtration will be good iam sure of it but I will modify it to slow my current and add bio fitration.

Yes, they may (probably will) eat snails. Yes, they need to be in a group, 6 is a good minimum. I was going to say you don't have enough bottom real estate but I see your tank is an odd long shape. They may be a bit boisterous for the kuhlis but probably ok.

Alright, i was hoping they were more like kuhlis in the non snail eating lifestyle.

What other loaches besides kuhlis won't eat snails?

Thanks fishorama.

I have to disagree on the snail eating. While the clown loaches devour every snail they can find, with my very large group of sids I have never witnessed them ever going after a snail. I have yet to see anyone say they have in fact seen their sids eating snails or that their snail population has dwindled after adding sids. I think I'll post the question over at loaches.com and see if anyone there can verify with proof or dispell this statement.

I only have live pond snails in the sid's filter, empty shells in the tank but they're in with small striatas. I think when they lived alone there were empties too but can't truly remember.

I gotta agree. I have a dozen sids in my community tank, and I have never SEEN them eat a snail. As far as other loaches, you could go with sewellia lineolata loaches. I have a dozen of them also, and they don't eat snails. Good luck.

There are a couple of sids owners that replied that they have witnessed their sids eating snails! So I guess better to be safe and keep them away from snails that you want than to be sorry.

My sids I used to have LOVED snails, but I only saw them eat them if I crushed the shell for them leaving the insides exposed
