My diy co2 setup only produces co2 into my diffuser when I shake the bottle. then is see bubbles in the diffuser like crazy which last only a short while, but if i don't shake the bottle, no more bubbles. Is there a problem with the pressure? I used 1/2 tsp yeast, 2 cups sugar, 1/8 tsp baking soda. The bubbles being generated in my reactor just look like soda pop sitting in the bottle with light amount of bubbles.. It's been about 20 hours since I made my batch of yeast.

About 4 feet of tubing, check valves, brass fittings secured with tiny zip ties, T valve for pressure release with a piece of plastic semi tightly in the hole.

For me the length of the tubing made a difference, the shorter it was the more my mixed worked.

To check for leaks take out the whole system, place it in a tub of water and clamp the end of the tubing (where it would escape) then squeeze the bottle and watch for any places the bubbles escape where they shouldnt be..

how old is your yeast?
did you hydrate the yeast? Did you use lukewarm water in the mix and not hot?

My yeast expires July of 2009

I mixed a 1/2 teaspoon,1 - 2oz. warm water, pinch of baking soda and sugar in a measuring cup and stirred in every couple Min's and let it set for about 10 Min's before I added to my bottle of sugar water.

maybe I can just add more yeast to my mxture I already have?

I just removed the T valve, that's the only place that there might have been a leak.

Try using breadmaker yeast. It doesn't need hydrating and is pretty much unkillable.

The stuff I was using is called "Ischman Active Dry Yeast"

Look on the instructions and see if it says "suitable for breadmakers" or whether the instructions for making bread require hydrating the yeast. I'd try for one which is suitable and/or doesn't require hydration. I'm not familiar with US brands.

Jag, I have the same problems with my DIY CO2 mix. I could have sworn you were talking about my mix and what I have tried to make it better(currently, I don't have time to monkey around anymore so until I get a chance to test further for leaks I am using excel only). I also use Ichman's yeast... perhaps it is the brand that is the problem?
