I would like to find a yellow betta. Are there certain species I should look for or do all of them come in yellow?

Betta splendens--the most common species in the pet stores--come in yellow varieties, but they're rare (or, at least, I hardly ever see them around where I live). You may have more luck buying from a breeder, either locally or through a website.

I always see yellow bettas at my LFS. They are not always in the best condition though so try looking on this forum in the classifieds or another good place is aquabid.com.

I agree with LeahK. Betta splendens are the ones that come in all of the different colors.

Betta splendens are the most common (at least in my experience) Betta species that you will find in a pet store.

Betta splendens come in different varieties including (but not limited to) veil-tails (the ones that are not usually labelled anything special and who look like the Betta in my avatar) , crowntails, and halfmoons.

Aquabid almost always has some yellow varieties. They are generally pretty expensive compared to pet store Bettas, especially when you add the shipping, but for the most part, they are much closer to "show" quality. My favorite yellow variety is the pineapple half moon plakat.

Thanks for the information. I will keep my eyes open. We dont have a local pet store and I cant imagine paying $35 in shipping charges.

I see them all the time at my local Petsmarts and Petcos. Often at LFSs. Maybe it's the region I live in, I don't know.

My most adored betta was named Yellow Gal. She used to do nothing but stare at me all day and night with two big, beautiful black eyes. She seemed like someone very deep in thought all of her life. I even nicknamed her "the philosopher fish" and made up stories about her to entertain my ex-gf.

I never mourned for a fish as I did with her when she died.

Best thing to do is find a Betta club in your area, they exist in most states. Make friends, see if anyone is breeding what you are interested. Club members usually sell to each other (or exchange for free if you are lucky), especially with beginners. Good luck! Yellow breeds true, so if you get both male and female - you are in business. If you can make it to an IBC show, there is always an auction afterwards where you can pick up pretty amazing fish for fair prices.

I've seen them also at my local petsmart and petcos. But, if you are willing to pay top dollar for a yellow betta, there is a website you can go to to order one. she is expensive. www.bettatalk.com . I believe thati s the website. Good Luck finding your yellow betta.
