i was wondering if anyone could advise me in how many yellow labs can be kept in a 157 liter/42 U.S. gallon tank, at the moment i have 2 females and 1 male and i was hoping to add a few more females would this be appropriate or do i need a bigger tank.

You could probably stick another male in there if it was rocky enough. How long of a tank is 42 gallons? That is a very deciding factor.

the tank is 4ft long and one foot wide and the aquarium has plenty of rocks all along the back of the tank providing plenty of shelter for he fish.

the older of the two females has produced two batches of fry in the first she produced 9 fry and in the second 24. the fry have been placed in a 125 liter tank and are doing great and and a growing quite rapidly, there is plec and a rainbow shark sharing the tank with the fry and they seem to be getting on fine, the tank also contains rocks and two pices of planted drift wood too provide shelter.

i used to have two yellow labs 1 male 1 female two red zebras also a male and female and two kenyi cichlids also a male and female, the kenyi produced a batch of 32 fry but only 24 made it they grow up in the 125 liter tank and reached 2-2.5 inches before i traded them in to the fish shop for suppliesi managed to get a £25 credit note, after that i sold the male kenyi cichlid and shortly after i sold the female, soon to follow was the two red zebras, this was a hard thing to do as i had these fish since they were about 1 inch long but i realised they were getting to big and aggressive for my tank which is only 42 U.S. gallons. i decided to purchase another yellow lab cichlid which was 1.5 iches long and a red tailed black shark which was about 2 inches, all the fish are doing great and have grown quite quickly.

Two pairs of labs in a 4 footer will be fine. Hell, if it's rocky enough, you could probably even raise some of the fry to a decent size.
