Yellow Lab "sitting" on a rock...

Hi Folks,

It looks like our tank has FINALLY finished cycling, and unfortunately (before finding this forum), we followed the LFS advice and stocked the tank after only a week of setting it up - so - these poor guys endoured plenty of ammonia and nitrite spikes along the way.

All of them seem to be doing fine today, but our yellow lab is causing some concern. He (or she??) has recently been "sitting" on a rock throughout the day. He'll swim around occasionally, and he definitely is one of the first to come up for food, but the rest of the time he's been 'sitting' on one of the rocks in the tank - meaning - he's in a normal postion (not laying on his side or anything), but, he swims over to his rock place and then gently floats down until he is *on* a flat part of the rock - and then just 'sits' there...

Is this common behavior? We've seen other fish 'hover' over a spot, but haven't seen any of them actually 'sit' in a place like this - with their body resting on the rock.

He does also seem to have a bit of a 'wobble' in his stroke when he is swimming, but he can still quickly dart around too..

Did this poor guy receive some permanent damage due to the spikes? Is this normal? Does it sound like something he will recover from? All of our readings are at safe / normal levels now.

Thanks

Hmmm, well sometimes a cichlid will defend thier territory and just sit there, in a cave or on a rock or something, i think that's fairly normal.

However, you may be concerned about the wobbling. Is it like a 'vibrating' or more of a slow side-to-side wobble? It may indicate some internal problems.

well oscars are known for this behavior pretty well mine only does it when hes upset or mad cause someone cleaned the gravel without his permission but he gets over it. could just be something your fish does. but if he starts any other weird suff you might be in trouble.

oooooh almost forgot bettas another very smart fish LOVE to just sit around all the time when my female beta was in the 55 she would sit all over the place ans my male betta does the same in his 10g

Thanks for the feedback.. Hopefully he is just guarding that rock!

He still always comes around for food - swims fast - his wobble is more of a slight side to side thing sometimes when he swims - not a vibration or twitch thing..

None of the other guys ever really pick on him, so I'm hoping that also means he's not too sick or in distress...

I'll go throw him a cucumber - maybe that will chear him up! ;) lol
