Yellow labs holding for the first time

If you decide to strip, strip them closer to day 20 (give or take a few days), just to be on a safe side. There's always a chance of a first brood being unsuccessful (either swallowing or spitting too early), but if everything is going well strip them on day 18, should be safe by then.

What is the best way to strip the mother's? I watched a few vids on you tube seems easy enough but, I'm scarred to like rip her bottom lip off!

What ever you do just be very careful and don't rush the process be gentle..

What I do to strip is: put a couple of gallons of tank water in a bucket, wet my hands, open the mouth and then gently hold the gills shut keeping the mouth open. I then gently shake her up an down, like a salt shaker, causing her to spit the fry. It takes me all of 15 seconds or so per fish. Do NOT hold the fish with anything other than BARE hands! Failure to wet your hands in tank water and using anything other than bare hands will strip the slime coat off opening her up to infection before it redevelops.

 What ibr3ak said hehehe..
