yet another betta question!

Thanks guys, I was just going to post that I am from Australia and yes, we only have very few lfs around here. $27 is the norm for a female, around $15 for a male.

I won't be keeping them together. I have a bunch of catfish in another tank so I may put one in to see how they go together and then get a few more if everything is OK.
thanks guys!

I have a betta in a 10 gallon and he seems to get along very well wiyh his tankmates. 2 irradescent sharks, 6 neon tetras & 3 zebra danios. The sharks hang out at the bottom, the tetras seem to prefer the middle of the tank and the danios are just below the surface. The betta cruises everywhere.

Not to hijack the thread, but that is one massively overstocked tank, Boohoo, also, you have fish that are going to outgrow that tank real quick.

I am a newbie so I appreciate any information that I receive. If you say that my tank is massively overstocked, what size tank do you suggest for the fish I have? 2 Irradescent sharks, 6 neon tetras, 3 zebra danios and 1 male betta.

Yes, that's a ridiculous myth. Fish, as yet, are not capable of rearranging their genetic code based on the size of their environment, despite the claims of LFSs everywhere. (That's not directed at you, Boohoo, but rather the stories we all have of overheard bad advice.) Of course, that's not to say people don't routinely stunt lifespans and bone and organ growth by keeping a fish in an aquarium that was fine for a juvenile fish but is enormously undersized for the adult fish.

Now that you've found AC, you have a great species database and a group of people with a wealth of knowledge far beyond mine, so welcome, Boohoo!
