I opened the top of my 29 to fix a plant down in back....as I was putting my hand in the tank I heard a splash and noticed a shadow pass before my eyes. I looked around and had a fleeting thought that one of my fish just tried to make a get away....but I looked around and didn't see anything.

I did what I had to do in the tank, closed the lid and went into the other room for a minute. As I was coming back through the kitchen...there was my female blue ram layed out on the floor !! :eek: :eek: "MY BABY" ! Lol....(I raised this one from a fry)

Well, I scooped her up and tossed her back in the tank and she seems to be ok, though she's hiding out and her tail is a bit clamped. I do hope she wasn't badly shaken up and doesn't get sick or anything. She's a pretty little fish and I don't have another partner for her bud in there.. :rolleyes:

I am sure the little fellow will be fine, just watch him for a few days and if he starts to show signs of disease or stress, start considering alternatives then.
 
You may have done this, but just for future reference and for other readers, in this kind of situation it is always best to wet your hands with tank water, and/or use a wet net, when picking up the fish.
 
Yeah, my hands were still wet from sticking them in tank.......but truley I wasn't thinking about that...just wanted to get that girl back in the water !! Lol...but thanks for reminding us about that Harry.....good piece of info !

Thanks Ash, she seems to be doing well today...no worries so far.. :)
 
How is she?? I hope OK! That is a great suggestion about the tank water on you hands too. I aiways panic and just think "hurry, into the water as quicky as possible!
 
My baby that jumped isn't a cichlid but he was lying on the floor for a while when my dog found him. She kept whining and tapping the floor next to him until I came over to see what she was bothered about. I also threw him back into the tank. He bounced back nicely but now he has cataracts and is missing most of his color on the side that was on the floor. He is a goldfish. I feed him by hand because he is blind now.

Anyway, I'm sure he will bounce back, especially if he has a girlfriend to impress. For all we know, that is why he jumped; he was trying to impress her.

I am just waiting for some wise guy to give the all too typical line of trying to get away from the wife, blah, blah, blah...
 
I just found my first "fish chip" yesterday. Noticed my A. panduro female had lost all her color. Couldn't find the male. Looked everywhere. I have a piece of plexiglass over the tank with a cheap "economy" hood over that. I cut a 2X3 hole in the plexiglass under the "door" of the hood so I could feed them. He jumped through the hole and got stuck between the plexiglass and the hood. I'm pretty bummed as I've been waiting for these two to spawn succesfully (they've produced fertile eggs, but no free swimmers yet) for 9 MONTHS! He was without a doubt the biggest most beautiful apisto i've owned (the one in my avatar)
