Any thoughts on keeping a half-dozen Botia kubotai together with L204's and HRP's in a 30 tall? The HRP's don't seem to like each other as well since being moved from the 38 with the other 4 to the honeymoon suite for spawning, and may be moving back with the rest of the gang soon.
I'll be receiving the Botia's this Friday, they're supposedly 2". Would that be a safe size to mix with Endler's, or would they be likely to become food? The 10 gallon Endler's project needs room to expand. I do have an empty 29 on hand that could be used if necessary.

Definitely no Lupin, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn...

Anyways.... How many L204s and HRPs? My biggest concern with adding the kubotais would be that they will probably disturb the plecos. At any rate at least this will give it a bump.

Most all loaches, with the exception of the sids monkey (aint even trying to spell it right!) ... get to be at least 5"-6", including your Botia kubotai. some are even bigger than that. Since you have a "tall" tank, it has a smaller footprint than a long tank, therefore reducing the amount of flooorspace for bottom dwellers... I wouldn't reccommend this tank for the loaches.

Whats an HRP?

I agree with H3D, the tank will be too small long term but kubotai are very slow growers. I think the flash plec would be ok with the loaches but I'm not sure about the cichlids. It's not the pair is it? Cichlids in general are not the best tankmates for loaches, no way with (hopeful) breeders.

Like FP said, even if we skip the tank size issue. Putting them with the HRP's is bad idea as well.

I agree with you, Nancy. I wouldn't mix the loaches with a promising breeding pair otherwise they'll be fine temporarily. A long tank is much more preferred than tall tanks as the loaches like plenty of space to swim around. And yes, these are indeed slow growers.:)

The HRP's were paired off until I moved them into the 30, but they're showing no signs of breeding now (one reason I'm considering moving them back into the 38 with the other 4.) I also have 2 55's running and 2 75's waiting to be set up. The 30 is only temporary housing for a few months until I get the 75's active.
There are 5 L204's in the tank, heavily loaded with wood, a couple pics in another thread. If kubotai are as slow-growing as clown loaches they should be fine for some time.
If/when the HRP's move out, that would provide more space for the Endler's that are rapidly overcrowding their 10.
