all of you who said I would become frustrated with DIY CO2. I think I am ready to pull the trigger on a actual system. I was thinking the Red Sea CO2 (Paintball) http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/207476/i/2/product.web

This is exactly my price range and I am thinking that the paintballs are easier to replace (there is a ****'s three minutes from my home).

Thoughts?

wow....sry to hear you are having so much issues. It's really not that bad. Maybe I'm just an exception to the rule. I only had the one issue when I first tried a glass diffuser. Then I had to reseal the bottles and haven't had any issues since.

for that price you can get a real co2 set up. the problem with that is you have to replace the co2 bottles every couple months. with a real co2 set up you can go a lot longer. this ends up being cheaper too in the long run. you should be able to find a 5 pound co2 tank local for 40-50. if you can fit a 10 pounder i would get it. one of those things you can set and forget for months. as for the regulator you can pick one up for $80ish on ebay. milwaukee is a good budget brand. the other things you should look into is a drop checker and how you want to diffuse it. also co2 tubing is helpful.

Sound like you have to much light over your tank for DYI Co2. More light requires more Co2 & Fertz causing your instability... If I had to guess, pressurized would be the way to go or reduce the lighting if possible.

I'm not one to talk though I have pressurized Co2 and am still battling aglae so it hasn't been the cure all for me I still have to find that balance...

Good luck.

By your description though...I don't think the CO2 is your issue. CO2 is getting in the tank right? Do you have a drop checker?

i am going to agree with mg. you'll most likely seriously appreciate a decent setup over the paint ball ones. a nice dual stage regulator helps avoid bottom of tank dumps that can gas your fish and you'll get a lot more bang for your buck.
