You won't believe this!!!!!!

you know what makes things even more amazing, she only paid $400.00 for the whole set-up, and they come to your house to set the whole thing up for you. Isn't that great!!!! Also someone please tell me if the 2 Emp 400 will be enough otherwise I need to get a Better Filter.

Well, I run 2 Emperor 400s on my 90, and I seem to do just fine. Especially since I have lots of plecos(6) poopin all over the place. I would like to get a canister filter, but I bought my tank used and they came w/ it and I just can't aford it right now. I think you should do just fine w/ your Emperors. Also, Congrats. That's a good girlfriend.

There will be good deals on boxing day so you may want to get a canister filter. I don't think you'll regret it. One canister and one emp 400 should be good, depending on the size of the canister and your fish load.

If you are going with a low to medium load of smaller fish I think the two emperors would probably be fine. If you want piranhas or other large messy fish a canister would be a good idea.

I've never had a canister filter so I know nothing about them. Which ones are good and which should I get. I was thinking of going that way. There is a first time for everyhing.

So are you saying that I need 2 Emporers and 2 canister filters. I'm a big fan of over filtration but DAMM, that's a lot. I'm also going to run 2 Pengiun 1140 ppowerheads in the tank to create some currents in the tank. I think the fish will like it.

My planned fish load will be:

3 Freshwater moray eels
1 Tiretrack eel
1 Fire eel
2 Bala sharks
1 Iridescent shark
2 Angelic catfish
1 Tiger barb
1 Blue gourami
1 Angel fish
1 red eye tetra

I'm planning on running:

2 Emperor 400 filters
2 Penguin 1140 powerheads (for currents)

That should be fine, Right?

Whoa!

FYI-
-Morays aren't really fresh water, but brackish water animals. I'd stick with fire/tire/spiny eels.
-Iridescent Sharks grow to 2'. I know you've got a big tank, but he'll be a monster.
- Tiger barbs are schooling fish, I wouldn't get just one. They'll bully when swimming solo. And they'd nip the Angelfish to no end. I've had a school of seven. They're aggressive, but fun.

As far as filters go, I've no experience with Emperors. I do have a Fluval 303 canister on my 55g, and I like it. Very quiet. I'm thinking of complementing it with a Fluval 104. If you really want a heavy fish load like you've listed above, I'd seriously consider a pair of canister filters. With the water movement they create on their own, you might only need one powerhead.

HTH!

I'd consider theuselessfew's advice...

And tetras are schooling fish also.

I think your listed filtration will be enough. If later down the road you need more, buy another filter (I'd recommend the Filstar XP3) and then you'll have an extra P400 for your next tank.

The "FW" moray is actually a marine fish and needs SW as an adult, they need at least BW to stay alive for more than a few months.

Also, stay away from the Iridescent shark. They get WAY too big for most aquaria and need over 200 gallons.

when buying a large tank like that you should really think about really USING the space, as in african cichlids, SA or central american cichlids. Or going with a certain biotope. You're never going to be able to predict how fish from different regions will react in an aquarium. your mixing alot of fish from very dfiferent regions and water chemistry.

I would go with the two FW eels, 5 bala sharks and maybe something else that's not small enough to become a meal to one of the eels.
