Your favorite "cures" for the common cold

For true bacterial strep throat, it's anecdotal, but a couple shots of very high proof liquor can help kill the bacteria. It's gotta be straight up though, no diluting it. But as a medical professional I would never recommend it as treatment of choice.

As a non medical professional, please allow me to do it for you...

Treatment of choice!!!!

hard liquor and emergen-c or airborne works every time. you you can replac the liquor with with heavy swigs from a bottle nyquil but i wouldn't recommend that one for every one

Mucinex (has to be name brand and the one where you take the card to the pharmacist and they check your ID so you aren't making meth lol) for stuffy nose or general head stuffiness.

Now, I work in a bar so for sore throats I say Jager or Maker's Mark. lol.

Oh and I mix a small cup of cranberry juice with Emergen-C (usually orange flavored) and take one a day vitamins.

My general cure was to go surfing. Nothing like a cold saline flush of the sinuses to clear up a cold. Amazing how much snot and phlegm you would hoick up in a good surfing session. :yuck:

Once you can handle walking over frosted sand in bare feet, a few "Icecream Headaches" from diving into cold water, and a bit of frostbite, a common cold was the least of your worries.

And yes I have melted frost off my car to go surfing....

I go with a few ice cold beers and DayQuil or NyQuil depending on time of day.

lemon honey tea makes mine feel much better! one tablespoon of honey and a bit of lemon juice (to your taste) mixed in hot water.. mmm.

hot bourbon with a dollop of honey

That was my first thought too. I thought it was a Wisconsin excuse to keep drinking though!! Putting honey into your green tea is not a bad idea! Both have a lot of beneficial properties.

A nice warm meal with lots of hot chocolate...
