I have a 75 gal on layaway at the LFS. I didn't get the stand with it because I thought I could probably construct a stand way cheaper than what the prices were there. Now I am really contemplating building the 75 into the wall of our living room. You see the people that had the house before us took the back half of what was a extra long 2 car garage and made it into a living room. So, the living room shares a wall with the garage. I was thinking why not build an aquarium into that wall and have all the gadgets (filter, etc.) in the garage. Can anyone forsee a problem with this?? Would love some insight from anyone who has attempted this. I am trying to find sites with info on how this can be done. Anyone who can point me in the right direction? Thanks for all your help :)

As long as you reenforce the wall (as in the same way you'd build a stand), and have a place for lights and what-not, then it should be ok. Just make sure not to do a half-arsed job and finish the drywall and opening before you put the tank in.

However, it's going to be a lot more $$ than buying or building a stand.

Also, is the garage air-conditioned and/or insulated? The air tempurature difference would be a problem.

also, I know this wouldn't work at my house because my husband is constantly using aerosol products in the garage (brake cleaner, etc) and the pollutants could theoretically get into your tank.

I forgot about th whole insulating thing and using chemicals in the garage. This is why I love bouncing ideas off of you guys. You all think of things I didn't think of. Probably won't do it then :(

From room to room is cool though.

I built my bros 100g into the wall.
There is a mech. room behind it to service it.
service is a pain but it looks good,I think anyway.

Very Nice. Any pics with the tank lights on?

...would look better if we could see the tank. :)

ANother problem that may arrise with some of the tank in the garage is temperature change. If you live somewhere where it gets cold in the winter and overnights and your garage isnt heated to the same temp as your house, I would think this could amount to some high power bills and possibly busted heaters.

you could always build an enclosure/closet around the back of the tank, with insulation and vents into the living room, so that air is taken and circulated from the house, instead of the garage... you'd loose a little room in the garage, but would still have wall space to hang your badminton rackets and gardening tools on...
