Your thoughts...

you could always build an enclosure/closet around the back of the tank, with insulation and vents into the living room, so that air is taken and circulated from the house, instead of the garage... you'd loose a little room in the garage, but would still have wall space to hang your badminton rackets and gardening tools on...

this is exactly what i was going to suggest, you could build an enclousure around the back of the tank it hsould keep the heat confined and also provide a barrier so no nasties from the garage will get in

In some areas building codes require that the garage be seperated from the living space by a firewall, which obviously cannot have holes in it. Might check into local building codes and see if that is also a concern. You might have to go as far as building another firewall behind the tank to keep it apart from the garage and meet code if that is a requirement in your area. Good luck with the project though. I love in-wall tanks.

Also, If you garage is just off to the side of the home - ie; attached, but with no living space above it, the wall you may want to put the tank into may be a load bearing wall, that would require a header and additional bracing to be installed for the wall opening for the tank. This should be your first concern.

I just realized you said that the living room is already "in the garage". Structure-wise I bet the wall there now is not load bearing, and code-wise I bet that the living room is not officially part of the living space. I think you'll be okay in both respects. Just build an insulating around the back of the tank, vent air from the living room to protect the tank from fumes and go for it! :)

That may defeat the purpose though... I may be wrong, but I think they wanted to go for the "see through" look.

I didn't (don't) see that mentioned in any of the OPs comments. Saw wanting to hang the equipment in the garage but I took that to really just mean out of sight of the living room, which could just be to the side (make the insulating box wider) or still behind (make the insulating box deeper). *shrug* May still be more work than the OP was looking to do too :)

lol...we're trying to figure out what he wants... maybe he should tell us. :)

lol, not a bad idea.
