Yucky Brown Stuff

I have a 2.5 gallon tank with one male betta in it. The tank was doing fine all week, but it started to get cloudy so I changed the filter and did a 50% water change. I have noticed some brown stuff all over the rocks and plants. I don't know what it is. Could that be making my tank cloudy and what is that brown stuff? Any guesses could help. Thanks

Ok, how do I get rid of it. Could it be his poop?

nope , not his poop. It is just brown diatom algae. Just scrub it off, its harmless.

what tool do you use for this kind of scrubbing?

Good old kitchen sponge, new form the package, rinsed well.

Use a plain sponge, not a scrubber.

Hrm, although you probably got a decent sponge, I'd never recommend someone use a kitchen sponge out of the package.

Many of those have soap and anti-bacterial agents in them.
